The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced settlements with Basin Marine, Inc. and Balboa Boatyard of California, Inc., to resolve Clean Water Act violations for discharging contaminants into Newport Bay.

Basin Marine and Balboa Boatyard had multiple violations of the Clean Water Act such as paint solvents, fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid, and heavy metals, including lead, zinc, and copper. The pollutants from stormwater discharge cause harm to aquatic life and sensitive marine ecosystems.

They have been ordered to pay a combined $202,132 in penalties and will maintain preventative measures to keep stormwater pollutants from draining into Newport Bay. Read more HERE!
