Army Corps are Called on to Respect California’s Authority over State Waters

Six states, including California, and the California State Water Resources Control Board have reached out to the U.S. Army Corp to respect and follow states authority to impose regulations in regard to water runoff and discharges into state bodies of water. In the past, the U.S. Army would follow state regulations surrounding water resources. However, the Trump Administration undercut the requirements for the Army to follow many of California’s clean water requirements. In July 2020,

California, New York and Washington challenged the ruling, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has yet to make a decision. Other states such as Washington, Connecticut, Maryland, New Mexico and Oregon have joined the cause to reestablish the connection and enforce their regulations on the U.S. Army Corp.
